Dummy text, also known as placeholder text, is commonly used in graphic design, publishing, and web development to allow page layouts to be designed independently of the final copy. One of the most well-known forms of dummy text is Lorem Ipsum, which has been the standard in the industry since the 1500s.234+1

Lorem Ipsum is a corrupted version of De finibus bonorum et malorum, a 1st-century BC text by Cicero, with words altered, added, and removed to make it nonsensical and improper Latin.2 It is used to demonstrate various fonts of a typeface without meaningful text that could be distracting.2

Versions of the Lorem Ipsum text have been used in typesetting since at least the 1960s, when it was popularized by advertisements for Letraset transfer sheets.2 It was later introduced to the digital world.2 Today, many desktop publishing packages and web page editors use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text.35

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text.
